MODERN LUXURY MEDIA NAMES JON STEINBERG AS
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF SAN FRANCISCO MAGAZINE
San Francisco, CA February 14, 2012 – San Francisco magazine's president and publisher Steven Dinkelspiel is pleased to announce that Jon Steinberg has been named editor-in-chief of San Francisco. In this role, Steinberg will oversee all aspects of the publication's award-winning editorial content as well as the magazine's fast-growing website, sanfranmag.com.
Steinberg spent the last six years at New York magazine, with his latest post as the department chief for the popular "Strategist" section. He began his tenure at New York first as an editor and producer on the website, nymag.com, then climbed the ranks to senior editor on the weekly print magazine and eventually headed up "Strategist." During his tenure as the editor of "Strategist," New York won six National Magazine Awards, including back-to-back wins in 2010 and 2011 for Best Magazine Section for the Strategist. Prior to his time at New York, Steinberg held the position of associate editor at Time Inc.'s custom publishing department, as well as writing freelance pieces for national magazines such as Rolling Stone, Men's Journal, and Backpacker. Having begun his career in the Bay Area, as an editor at Diablo magazine in Walnut Creek, Steinberg is pleased to return to the city he loves most.
"Jon Steinberg is one of the brightest talents in media, both print and online, and we're thrilled he's joining our team," says Steven Dinkelspiel, San Francisco's president and publisher. "Jon's intelligence, visual sensibility, wit, and team-building abilities will take the magazine's content to a new heights," Dinkelspiel adds. "Steinberg's distinguished career is a direct result of his clear editorial vision, execution, passion, and leadership, for which he has earned respect within the industry. We are honored to have such a respected editorial talent at the helm," says Modern Luxury vice president of editorial Beth Weitzman.
"I have been a reader and admirer of San Francisco for many years, and I am thrilled to continue what my predecessor Bruce Kelley has accomplished over the last decade-plus: telling important and useful stories, presenting them in imaginative and beautiful ways, and publishing writing and photography that constitutes the gold standard in Bay Area journalism," says Jon Steinberg. "My intention is for San Francisco to remain the publication that everyone in the city and the region turns to with a sense of pride. The talent and ambition of the current staff is phenomenal, and we are going to have a great time publishing a superlative magazine. I can't wait to get started."
