San Francisco, CA February 14, 2012 – San Francisco magazine's president and publisher Steven Dinkelspiel is pleased to announce that Jon Steinberg has been named editor-in-chief of San Francisco. In this role, Steinberg will oversee all aspects of the publication's award-winning editorial content as well as the magazine's fast-growing website,

Steinberg spent the last six years at New York magazine, with his latest post as the department chief for the popular "Strategist" section. He began his tenure at New York first as an editor and producer on the website,, then climbed the ranks to senior editor on the weekly print magazine and eventually headed up "Strategist." During his tenure as the editor of "Strategist," New York won six National Magazine Awards, including back-to-back wins in 2010 and 2011 for Best Magazine Section for the Strategist. Prior to his time at New York, Steinberg held the position of associate editor at Time Inc.'s custom publishing department, as well as writing freelance pieces for national magazines such as Rolling Stone, Men's Journal, and Backpacker. Having begun his career in the Bay Area, as an editor at Diablo magazine in Walnut Creek, Steinberg is pleased to return to the city he loves most.
